Petitio did not make it to Yellowstone National Park as they had planned. Brian and Gabby chose to share a van; he returned to Florida on his own. Petito’s parents filed a report of a missing person on September 11th after they had been unable to reach her for several days.

Dog the Bounty Hunter is a celebrity bounty hunter who believes the 23-year-old sought help from his parents due to their suspicious behavior throughout the investigation.
The detectives believe that Brian’s parents and Brian communicated using coded language through their written correspondence.
On October 21st, 2021, Chris and Roberta Laundrie received a surprise visit from two detectives; they then went to Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in order to help law enforcement with the search for Brian.
In the park, near where “skeletal remains were identified,” several of Brian’s belongings were found. Chris and Roberta Laundrie returned home after the discovery of Brian’s remains. The bag was adorned with artwork and detectives believe it to be his.
Steve Bertolino (the attorney who represents the Laundrie Family) had earlier revealed that Brian seemed visibly upset when he left his parents’ home for the last time.
In an interview with NBC, he said that Brian was very distressed when he left, and Chris Laundrie repeatedly expressed regret for allowing him to go despite not being able to prevent it.
During a subsequent interview with TMZ, the attorney refused to give a reason as to why the 23-year-old chose to leave but confirmed he was in distress at the moment.
Steve continued to say, “He just wasn’t acting like himself.” Roberta Laundrie said that one cannot understand what someone’s thinking is internally, but they were attempting to understand his behavior that day.
On October 21st, 2021, the FBI announced that Brian’s remains were found at T. Malbry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.
The remains were discovered by authorities the day before during a search in Myakkahatchee Park. They had found a notebook and backpack that they suspected belonged to Brian.
A medical examiner, cadaver dogs, and an underwater search team were sent to the area where the remains had been discovered.
Initial reports stated that only skeletal remnants had been found, but a subsequent dental examination confirmed that Brian’s remains were among them.
According to an autopsy from the Sarasota Medical Examiner’s Office, Brian died of a gunshot to the head. It was determined that this was the result of a murder-suicide.
Brent Blue, the Teton County Coroner, announced on October 12th, 2021, that Gabby’s death was a homicide; her autopsy report showed that she died from strangulation.
The Laundrie family attorney released a statement following the release of autopsy results expressing their sympathy for Gabby’s tragic death.
Bertolino said that “while Brian Laundrie was charged with the unauthorized use of Gabby’s debit card, he is considered only a person of concern in connection with Gabby’s death.”
The FBI issued an arrest warrant on September 23rd, 2021, for Brian, accusing him of using unauthorized debit cards after Gabby Petito died.
Brian was only a “person-of-interest” during that period while law enforcement investigated the case.
Brian wasn’t identified as a “person of interest” until October 21st, 2021.
Brian Laundrie’s Girlfriend: Gabby’s Case Closure
Further investigation revealed that Brian had killed Gabby himself and confessed to the crime in his notebook. Brian went missing in September 2021, and when the police searched for him, they found his remains and said he had committed suicide and the case of Gabby Petito was closed after this.
The family of Gabby Petito won a $3 million verdict in a Florida court against Brian Laundrie. However, it is unlikely that they will ever receive that amount.
Laundrie’s estate is less than $3 Million, so the family will receive whatever’s left.
