This leads to a false perception of democracy and freedom which eventually benefits an elite class at the expense of the people of the working class.

The Illusion of Choice vs. Desirability Bias

The email may provide the prospect of a limited-duration, discount that will expire soon and may include a countdown clock that creates urgency.
