Scholarship Description
The University of Tasmania Scholarship is fully funded for international students; it is open to masters and doctoral students. The scholarship provides AUD $28,597 per year and a relocation allowance of up to AUD $2000.
Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarships (TGRS) will be awarded to the best candidates, both domestic and international, throughout the year. The University of Tasmania offers Tasmania Graduate Research scholarships in all disciplines of research; these will be awarded to candidates with a demonstrated ability for research.
Scholarships are awarded competitively based on academic achievement, prior experience, previous learning, and other relevant achievements. Priority is given to new candidates who are in strategic research fields.

Program Period: PhD 3.5 years, no extension. The scholarship period is shorter than the maximum duration of candidature, which is four years.
Master: 2 years, no extension.

Scholarship Coverage
The University of Tasmania Scholarship provides:
- Stipend: AUD $28,597 per annum (latest rates). This rate is updated annually on the 1st of January.
- Relocation allowance: The TGRS offers an allowance of up to AUD $2,000 to help with the costs of relocating to Tasmania in order to pursue a Higher Degree in Research.
- Other allowances: Award holders can also receive minor awards or allowances in addition to the Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship or earnings derived from work done part-time within the University’s guidelines.
University of Tasmania Scholarships Eligibility
The candidate must meet all the requirements listed below to qualify for the University of Tasmania Scholarship.
- Required Language: English
- Eligible countries: All world nations
- The successful applicants will have attained a second-class honors degree (or equivalent) and completed four years of studies in tertiary-level education.
- The awards are available only to those pursuing a full-time Masters or Doctoral program in 2024/2025.
- The candidate must not receive another award, scholarship, or salary that is equivalent to the program proposed (if the income exceeds 75% of the RTP base stipend).
- Income not related to the applicant’s Higher Degree through Research (e.g. Employment income or income received to support the applicant’s Higher degree by research but not general living expenses is not taken into consideration.
- The applicants with a degree of the same or higher level than the proposed candidature and/or who hold a Postgraduate Research Award funded by the Australian Government or University for a period longer than six months are eligible to submit an application. They will be taken into consideration in the selection process.
