Australia Awards Scholarships 2024/2025 are fully funded scholarships for international students. These scholarships cover undergraduate, masters, and PhD studies and include full tuition fees, living expenses, travel allowances, and establishment allowances.

Australia Awards Scholarships are open to international students interested in pursuing higher education at Australian institutions. Australia Awards Scholarships are designed to meet the needs of Australia’s partners in accordance with bilateral and regional agreements; these awards are administered through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Australia Awards Scholarships Details and Benefits

The Australia Awards Scholarships offer the following benefits to the recipients:

  • Tuition fees
  • Contribution towards the cost of accommodation, textbooks, and study materials
  • Return air travel: payment of one return economy class flight to and from Australia via the most direct route.
  • Contribution to living expenses (CLE): a fortnightly payment covering basic living costs at a rate set by the Department.
  • Pre-course English (PCE) fees.
  • Overseas Student Health Coverage (OSHC) is provided for the duration of the award. It covers the scholar’s medical expenses (except for pre-existing conditions).
  • An introductory academic program (IAP) is a mandatory program before the start of formal academic study in Australia that provides information about living and studying there.
  • Additional academic support is available to enhance a scholar’s experience or ensure their academic success.
  • Students who are eligible for fieldwork (for Masters by coursework and research awards that have a compulsory research component) can get a return economy class flight via the shortest route back to their home country or Australia.

Australia Awards Scholarships Eligibility

The following criteria must be met by applicants to be eligible for Australia Awards Scholarships:

  • Required Language: English
  • Citizens of participating countries from Asia, Pacific Africa, and the Middle East are eligible. Complete list of participating countries.
  • The age must be 18 or older on 1st February of the academic year in which the scholarship is being offered.
  • You must not be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency in Australia, or apply for a visa in order to permanently live in Australia.
  • You must be a citizen of a country that is listed on the Australia Awards Website and reside in the country where you are applying for the scholarship.
  • You cannot be married, engaged, or de facto to a person with Australian or New Zealand permanent residency or citizenship, or who is eligible to have it, during any phase of the application, selection, or mobilization (note: Residents of Cook Islands and Niue, as well as Tokelau, with New Zealand nationality, are eligible, but must apply for Student Visa [subclass 500]).
  • They must not have received a long-term Australia Award unless they lived outside Australia for at least twice as long as the time they spent in Australia. (For example, an awardee on a scholarship for Australia Awards in Australia who was there for four years is ineligible to apply for a second Australia Awards Scholarship until after they have been outside Australia for eight).
  • You must not be a serving member of the military.
  • The applicant must have met any criteria set by the Program Area, or the government in the country of their citizenship. Working in a specific sector for a specified number of years.
  • You must be able to meet all the requirements of Home Affairs in order to obtain a Student Visa. The Program Area may withdraw an award if the student does not meet the visa requirements.
  • The recipient must be able to meet the admissions requirements of the institution where the award will be taken up. Program Areas may withdraw the award if they cannot. It may not be possible to know until Program Areas request placements at specific institutions.
  • You should not apply for a scholarship that is lower than the academic level you already have (e.g., a Master’s scholarship if you already hold a PhD).
  • The applicant must notify the Program Area about any relationship or connection with staff working at Program Areas, including locally employed staff in a post; this will allow the application to be managed properly and transparently.

How to Apply

Follow the instructions below to apply for Australia Awards Scholarships.

  1. To apply online, go to the Australia Scholarships Information system (OASIS). You will need to answer a few questions in order to determine your eligibility when you register online; then, you will be provided with a unique registration code, username, and password. Your application does not have to be submitted immediately; you can create a draft of your application and then update it and the supporting documents until the specified closing date on the profile for the participating country.
  2. Your application will not be editable once it has been submitted. Online applicants are strongly encouraged to apply well in advance of the deadline. OASIS is very busy in the days before the deadline, and there may be delays for applicants.

  4. You can also apply by post if you’re unable to submit online. Check your country profile to find the contact information for a hard copy of the application form and other templates (if applicable) such as the referee report.
